Pseudo-Q
Mark Mandel &
Trey Jones
Nine pseudo-questions are transcribed below. One (not necessarily unique) word from each pseudo-question appears in several of the boxes in the grid. A couple of the words are negated and italicized. To solve the puzzle, place one of the pseudo-questions in each box such that the following constraints are satisfied:
- No pseudo-question appears more than once in any of the nine rows, columns, or 3x3 sub-grids.
- If a pseudo-question is in a box with a word, then that word must appear in the pseudo-question; unless the word is negated and italicized, in which case the word must not appear in the pseudo-question.
Here are the transcriptions:
- /eɪntɪtgreɪt/
- /huraɪtsðɪskræp/
- /ɪnɪt/
- /junoʊ/
- /kæntʃurid/
- /mʌðɚmeɪaɪ/
- /oʊrili/
- /seɪwʌt/
- /tubioʊrnɑttubi/
As always, your pronunciation and/or transcription system may vary.
Bonus: To double your chances of winning a prize, find the pseudo-answer to one of the pseudo-questions, hidden in the finished puzzle. Hint for solving the puzzle and for finding the bonus: there’s an obvious way of encoding the questions to track them in the puzzle; use it.
Complete the puzzle and send your solutions to the editors of SpecGram by May 15th, 2019 and you could win a prize. The correct solution and winners, if any, will be announced in the upcoming June issue.
