Simulation Modelling of Syntactic Habitats
Nom Compik & Piraha Sanpitakuk
The time has come to use modern computational techniques in the study of how syntax works. In this study we explore how the linguist interacts with a wide range of structural variability by simulating not only the behavior of the trees themselves but also the behavior of the linguist. Thus, this is the first ever computational study that examines language in a dynamic and ecological setting where the observers are part of the system under scrutiny. A running demo of the system is available on the SpecGram website. Our initial findings are promising (t = 7.6549, df = 1238.977, p-value = 3.877e-14) but much more research is required.
