From the Archives!—The XT-17 Uzi/Reel-to-Reel Recorder

The SpecGram Archive Elves™

As previously reported, our very own Butch McBastard unearthed a satchel of papers labeled, “Top Secret SpecGram Time Capsule, 1964Do Not Open for 50 Years!”.

After an extended period of wrangling with the SpecGram legal team over potential incriminating evidence proprietary information, we are once again able to share with our readers some of the treasures found within the satchel.

Here is a photo of the fourth item, an exceedingly rare1 XT-17 Uzi/Reel-to-Reel Recorder, a precursor to the more well-known and more reliable XT-21 Uzi/Tape Recorder, advertised in the pages of Linguist of Fortune as late as 1990! You can see the “special red button” in the photo, though Legal demanded that the muzzle extension mechanism as well as the firing pin be removed “before any linguists or editors are allowed to touch it.” Spoilsports. We would likely not have shot too many interns before we figured out how to aim it properly.

More to come...

1 And heavy. This is likely the source of the concussion Butch suffered2 when the satchel came down from the ceiling.

2 In the sense that one of the interns he was flogging got a concussion. Butch says he suffered considerably because there’s no point in flogging an intern who is unconscious.
