In an effort to ensure more finance throughout the pyramid of linguistics research, 12 top research universities have announced the formation of a breakaway Super League. The 12 universities will share funding between them with uncapped solid charity payments to smaller universities according to how many people happen to notice. Expert Dr. Will Getenure didn’t comment as he’d quite like a job with one of those universities.
In response, the Federation Internationale de Linguistique Association (FILA) issued a terse statement: “Faculty and students from any institution which joins the renegade ‘Super League’ will henceforth and immediately be banned from participation in all national and international conferences, and publishers who accept their articles will be subject to FILA sanctions, the likes of which your worst enemy’s mother never dreamed of.”
In response, spokespersons for several universities whose names had been associated with the scheme said, “Who, us? Nah, you must be thinking of some other university... Nothing to see here...”
