The Most Expensive Linguistics e-Book in the World!

In case you haven’t been keeping score, the extremely swanky Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics seems to be the most expensive linguistics e-book in the world. As of early 2017 2024, it’s still $11,850. For an e-book. An e-book. Clearly someone paid a little attention in their behavioral economics class and figured out that people infer quality from price.

We at SpecGram have offered an enormous, luxurious, tenure-sized 8.5 x 11 inch book with the finest faux Corinthian and/or Venusian “leather” “finish”—all at a reasonable price. The e-book, having fewer physical dimensions and no “leather” “finish” was even more reasonably priced.

We were suckers.

So now we’re going to take a virtual page from the ELL (at $1.32 a pop!) and prove that our e-book is the best because it’s the most expensive—at the enormous, luxurious, tenure-sized price of more than $11,850. (If you have to ask the exact price, you probably can’t afford it.)
