The following letter grid contains many acronyms that are familiar to linguists. In fact, we required each one of the Puzzle Elves™ to personally secrete at least one acronym somewhere in the puzzle, so you can be sure that there are at least 65 acronyms total—though we suspect some of the more productive elves of copying off each other, so duplicates will likely occur. Some acronyms are as short as two letters, some are longer.

Find the acronyms. Submit to us a list of the acronyms you found, along with their expanded forms (we want to make sure you really know the field well). Points will be deducted for spurious answers, so don’t try any funny business.

Winners will be those judged to have demonstrated a truly impressive—perhaps even encyclopedic—knowledge of the field and its acronymic obscurities. In the event that multiple such walking encyclopedias are evident, winners may be randomly selected from among them. Submit your solution to the editors of SpecGram by April 15, 2014, and you could win a prize.^* Solutions and winners will be announced in the May issue.
