A Response to Anonymous’s Collected Graphic Evidence Against the Existence of the Morphome / Knauv Shauling, Ph.D., B.C.E / Assistant Chief Hibernolinguistic Paleocurmudgeon of Speculative Grammarian ¶ I don’t normally feel the need to comment on articles published in Speculative Grammarian. It is my job to edit articles and prepare them for publication, not to referee or comment upon random malarky. However, it is clear that the coward hiding behind the “Anonymous” moniker is a user of a Macintosh--just look at the pointlessly shiny, gaudy globes in the upper left corner of Item 1 of Exhibit A. Further evidence of the disturbing Macintosh mindset is provided by Anonymous’s use of the phrase “Graphic Evidence”. The evidence itself is not graphic. Only the presentation of the evidence is graphic. Thus, I felt the need to call in several personal and professional favors in order to be able to respond to this rubbish in the same issue in which it will have first appeared. ¶ There was a time, a few decades ago, when Macintosh users were sometimes useful, if you needed something printed in an unusual character set. But since the advent of the iWhatever, adherents to the Cult of Macintosh have become singularly arrogant and annoying. While that may seem a bit ad hominem, the issue of character is very important when assessing the arguments of an anonymous Milquetoast. ¶ As with any important linguistic development, the morphome has been obstinately misunderstood and willfully mischaracterised by professional opponents, academic provocateurs, and various other species of wee-minded idiot. Anonymous’s cheeky attack demonstrates exactly such obstinate misunderstanding and willful mischaracterisation. Saint Aronoff has provided us with a meaningful, explanatory, inspired explanation of phenomena few felt needed explanation. And for that we should be thankful, not disrespectful.
